From the Elastomer Valley to International Markets

Doing Business in Brazil

Elastomer Valley is group of Quebec-based  companies who have joined forces in pursuit of economic development opportunities. Participants include equipment and tooling manufacturers, custom mixers, processors and suppliers, and a custom-fabricator of rubber and plastic components – Elasto Proxy.

As a member of Elastomer Valley, Elasto Proxy supports the group’s vision of making the region North America’s second largest hub for the research, development, and manufacturing of elastomer parts and products. Close to Montréal and not far from the U.S. border, La Vallée des élastomères is the home of innovative companies and skilled workers who can compete and win both nationally and internationally.

French Trade Delegation Visits Elastomer Valley

Last month, Elastomer Valley hosted a French trade delegation led by Olivier Gille, Executive Manager of the Elastopôle rubber and polymers competitiveness cluster, to discuss potential business collaboration and product development opportunities. Mr. Gille was accompanied by company representatives from EFJM, providers of waterproofing solutions; SACRED, an automotive supplier; VPI-CMO, a manufacturer of castings; and the National Institute of Vocational Training and Rubber (IFOCA).

Elasto Proxy to Join Trade Mission to São Paulo, Brazil

Next month, Elasto Proxy will join five other companies from Elastomer Valley on a trade mission to São Paulo, Brazil. Sponsored by Export Québec and organized by the provincial government’s office in Sao Paulo, the six-day trade mission will run from November 24 to 30 and focus on elastomers, vehicle parts, and plastics. In helping Québec-based companies like Elasto Proxy to develop, strengthen and diversify markets outside the province, Export Québec offers services tailored to the needs of each business.

Clyde Sharpe, Elasto Proxy’s President of International Sales, will participate in numerous meetings to solidify existing relationships and develop new ones. Clyde’s trip to Brazil complements Elasto Proxy’s efforts in the SME Passport program, which is also designed to help Québec companies boost exports and penetrate new international markets.

Elasto Proxy Shares Sealing Solutions at STIQ Buyer / Supplier Day

Clyde Sharpe
President for International Sales

Last week, I met with world-class buyers at STIQ Buyer/Supplier Day here in Montréal. Organized by the Sous-Traitance Industrielle Québec (STIQ), this one-day networking event connects the province’s leading integrators and OEMs with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As STIQ Executive Vice President Normand Voyer explains, “Alone, SMEs can spend years trying to organize a meeting with a buyer”. At STIQ’s Buyer/Supplier Day, however, a Québec-based SME like Elasto Proxy can connect with a multitude of large companies in a relatively short amount of time.

In an exercise that the STIQ compares to “speed dating”, I met with buyers from leading national and international businesses in the time it takes to enjoy a cup of coffee. Each 15-minute session afforded me an opportunity to showcase Elasto Proxy’s custom fabrication capabilities and to describe our commitment to customers. The sample box I brought contained profiles, sheet stock, and splices made of rubber materials such as EPDM, Viton, and neoprene. But what I most wanted to showcase was how by listening to all of our customers’ requirements, Elasto Proxy provides world-class sealing solutions.

For over 25 years, I added, our innovative company has strengthened supply chains in many different industries. So whether you need rubber and plastic products such as floor mats, profiles, trim, tubing, weatherstripping or window channels, Elasto Proxy can design and custom-fabricate the right sealing solutions for your application. Naturally, the contacts I made at STIQ’s Buyer/Supplier Day wanted to know about Elasto Proxy’s experience in their own industry. These world-class buyers represented leading businesses in aeronautics, transportation, energy, and various resources and manufacturing.

By sharing relevant success stories, I demonstrated that Elasto Proxy has the experience, capabilities, and commitment to meet their needs. Part of our strength, I added, is that with customers in so many different markets, Elasto Proxy is not narrowly focused. Our broad application knowledge and deep technical expertise also enable us to find innovative solutions to new challenges. For example, the same anti-vibration mats that have been used in vehicles can also be used with windmills. For wind energy customers, this can provide a significant cost savings.

On behalf of Elasto Proxy, I would like to thank Sous-Traitance Industrielle Québec (STIQ) for organizing last week’s event and providing SMEs like us with a valuable opportunity to grow our businesses. To learn more about how Elasto Proxy’s sealing solutions can meet your needs, please contact us today.  Hope to hear from you soon!

Elasto Proxy Earns SME Passport

By Clyde Sharpe
President of International Sales for Elasto Proxy

SME Passport
SME Passport

Earlier this year, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and Québec International launched SME Passport, an innovative program that provides the province’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the keys to unlock international markets.  Québec-based businesses that earn an SME Passport receive $25,000 in expert consulting, including guidance on developing an export action plan. Partners for this comprehensive training and support program include National Bank, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation and its Export-Québec unit.

As the President of International Sales for Elasto Proxy, I am pleased to announce that our Boisbriand-based company has been selected to participate in this exclusive program.  Of the 40 companies that applied for an SME Passport last June, only 15 were selected. As part of the application process, Elasto Proxy prepared and delivered a presentation describing our products and services, capacity and financial resources, and the commitment of our management team. With sales offices in Canada, the United States, and China, we also shared our current strategies for international growth.

The breakfast roundtable that I attended in July with Megan Beaulieu, Elasto Proxy’s Executive Support Specialist, also afforded our company with an opportunity to introduce itself and to share our goals for reaching new markets in Brazil and the Middle East. The next SME Passport event will allow us to elaborate upon our export action plan and gain feedback from experts such as Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, a network of management consultants that helps companies like ours pursue business opportunities both domestically and internationally.

For Elasto Proxy, meeting the needs of international markets is an important part of our long-term growth strategy. Although some SMEs have shed old mission statements in search of new opportunities, we plan to bring our values to the world stage. Listen to your customers – and to your suppliers. Define objectives. Collaborate to find solutions. Embrace innovation. These are the reasons we enjoy long-term relationships with our existing customers, and why we will find new ones both at home and abroad.

Sanitary Seals for Food Equipment and Medical Equipment

Sanitary Seals | Food Equipment
Sanitary Seals | Food Equipment

Elasto Proxy supplies sanitary seals to the food equipment industry as well as to medical equipment manufacturers and the makers of medical assist devices. Our solutions providers understand your regulatory environment and how some plastic and rubber materials must meet requirements from organizations such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Sanitary Foundation (NSF). As your supply chain partner, we also understand that when health and safety are at stake, there’s more to business than the bottom line.

Food Safe Seals

For over 20 years, Elasto Proxy has designed, manufactured, and installed replacement seals for vats and tanks at food and beverage processing facilities. By listening to all of your requirements and analyzing all of your needs, our solutions providers can recommend material compounds that meet your pressure, temperature, and sanitary requirements. Food equipment suppliers also trust Elasto Proxy to design and fabricate high-quality rubber components that help keep kitchen employees safe. So whether you need rubber gaskets for refrigerators, high-temperature door seals for restaurant ovens, or protective edges for sharp stainless steel surfaces, you can count on us to provide the right sealing solution.

Medical Seals

Medical equipment manufacturers and the makers of medical assist devices also operate in a highly regulated environment where health and safety are on the line. As a trusted supplier to manufacturers of durable medical equipment, Elasto Proxy designs and custom-fabricates plastic and rubber parts such as medical tubing, diaphragms, and gaskets. Our capabilities also include components such as rubber seals for handicap accessible walk-in bathtubs and foam grips for bed grab handles. With the knowledge and expertise to meet the needs of doctor’s offices, hospitals, and home-health care settings, Elasto Proxy serves suppliers of dental equipment, too.

Specialty Seals

Earning your trust involves more than mastering food-contact requirements or the latest specifications for medical materials. To meet all of your business needs, Elasto Proxy can also supply sanitary seals that match your product’s colors. For example, if you need a rubber gasket to match the color of a medical assist device, we can source the compound from an extruder who uses pantone color matching. Our solutions providers can also design rubber seals that complement color schemes for kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, ovens, and mixers. By listing to all of your requirements and analyzing all of your needs, Elasto Proxy seals-in safety for food and medical equipment.

Elasto Proxy Seals Business Relationships at InnoTrans

“You can’t see all of InnoTrans by yourself,” explains Clyde Sharpe, President of International Sales for Elasto Proxy, “but it was fun trying.” Spanning 60,000 square meters and covering both indoor and outdoor exhibits, the International Trade Fair for Transport (InnoTrans) is one of the world’s largest events for passenger and freight railway technology. With over 125,000 visitors and some 2500 exhibitors from nearly 50 countries, InnoTrans 2012 exceeded expectations and enabled Elasto Proxy to seal important business relationships.

“There were opportunities everywhere for everyone,” Clyde says, noting that all of the top tier players were in Berlin, Germany from September 18 to 21. As Elasto Proxy’s lone representative, he spent most of his time visiting the booths of other exhibitors, meeting with potential suppliers and customers from around the globe. Equipped with a sample box and electronic sales presentation, Clyde learned first-hand that the railway industry likes the quality of Elasto Proxy’s splicing and compounds. Elasto Proxy’s application knowledge and custom fabrication capabilities also impressed the railway industry.

Traveling the tradeshow floor was a big job for one solutions provider, but Clyde enjoyed the enormity of the task. “We need to build a stronger brand in Europe,” he explains, and “attending major events like InnoTrans supports Elasto Proxy’s goals for strong European growth”. The next InnoTrans event won’t be until 2014, but Elasto Proxy’s President for International Sales is already thinking about returning to the biennial trade fair as part of a larger team.
